Connecting Bhubaneswar with over 500 wifi hotspots and access points


A happier Monday indeed! Bhubaneswar gets digitalize as chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurates the much awaited “Bhubaneswar me wifi” project launched under the Bhubaneswar smart city limited. This project aimed at connecting all the main hubs in the city so as to enable fast and advanced connectivity across these happening and busy points in the temple town of Odisha.

The project spreads to the entire city and is accessible at zero rates by all the citizens and the data packs will be made available to all people at free of cost. The government surely believes in achieving greater heights in terms of the development and growth for the state after this program as this helps enhance communication and improves the overall ethics.

On the first day itself, 100 hotspots and 275 access points were installed and made functional. Each of these hotspots can connect to maximum 150 users or devices, providing 250 MB data to per user at the speed of 2Mbps. The points have ranged from the farthest of locations and have covered almost all major hubs. The connections have been drawn from the KIIT square to Raj Bhavan, Acharya Vihar to AG square, Sishu Bhawan to VaniVihar and Nalco square to Acharya Vihar. The connection maps are yet to be expanded.

Torching some light upon the right utility and youth, the CM said “Today is a historic day for Bhubaneswar. The city of temples will have an IT backbone comparable to the best modern cities in the world. I call upon the youth to utilize these world-class facilities and aim big in their spheres of work,” ensuring the right message reaches the right ears.

The project will have a second phase where more points would be added to the vast ranges of the city. It is informed that around 518 hotspots would be set up all across the city which the public can utilize internet data from, through 1800 access points.

Technology, transparency, and teamwork is the real vision of the government, they are now aiming at extending the same service to main cities of the state as the Cuttack, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Berhampur, and puri.

The inauguration took place amidst the great dignitaries of the state and to mention a few, development commissioner and chairman of smart city ltd Sri Balakrishnan, Minister Shri Ashok Panda, MP Shri Prasanna Patsani, MLA Shri Bijoy Mohanty, Shri Priyadarshi Misra, Mayor Shri Ananta Narayan Jena and other senior officers who graced the occasion along with the CM.

This project has bought in great hopes in the citizens of Odisha as well as the government. The future seems brighter and better with such facilities available openly to the public.
